hello one and all,
this is my first post on here,
been in this game since about 95, attending south birmingham college gaining NVQ level 3,also went on all the excellent BAL courses when they were free!(alright paul riliey you may remember me pranging your colleages new saab in BAL car park, used to attend with my old man)
anyway i recently went to a very informative day around MAPEI in halesowen where was told when using large format on floors to use a 5mm grout joint as more allowance for movement is required in such a tile.
my question is why when particularly while abroad in europe you see metre square marble slabs (like on airport floors) that only have say 1mm joint even though substrate is pre cast concrete where movement must considerable, with all the load bearing foot traffic.
Is there flex within the marble itself or some other reason.
regardless anything 400mmx400mm i now use a 5mm spacer, whether the customer fancies it or not, particularly when going over timber and UHF.
cheers.
paul
